The whole EMR/meaningful use/stimulus money program is to be phased in over the next several years, with each phase, or stage, expected to increase EMR capability requirements. We have just begun stage 1, and are accelerating down the onramp toward the information superhighway. Before we can successfully merge into traffic, however, we must show our EMR vehicle is capable of 25 meaningful use criteria as set forth by Medicare. I plan to comment on the 1st criteria (objective), that of CPOE use, very soon; stay tuned.
